Three
By Mike Angley

I have had three ghostly experiences in my life, all while I served in the US Air Force at one particular assignment. Between 1984 - 1986, I was stationed at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, pursuing an advanced degree. I lived in Herrmann Hall, the main administration building and residence hall for some students.

Herrmann Hall was once the grand Del Monte Hotel, built in the late 1800s, and partially destroyed by two fires in its history. Several people died in the fires, and the reconstructed building has been the legend of many ghost stories over the years.

On two occasions, while sleeping alone in my room on the third floor, I was awaked by the sudden and rough shaking of my shoulders. Each time it was early morning, around 2:00 am. It felt like someone was lying next to me, frantically shaking me to wake me up. When I flipped on the light, there was a slight "second" indentation in the bed like a body would make next to the indentation my own body had made. Of course, I was the only person in the room.

The third incident occurred just once, but right after my bathroom had been renovated by the Navy. I was taking a shower and had just lathered up when my water faucets suddenly spun themselves off. The water stopped. I was too frightened to "fight" the force that had just made this kind of bold statement to me, so I dried my soapy body off and went to class.

I heard many other ghost stories from other residents during my tenure there, but these were the only first hand experiences I had. What concerned me the most was the physical nature of my experiences...the touching and shaking...the faucet spinning. Most people who claim ghostly encounters see or hear things, but I felt mine.
